The Renaissance was a revolutionary period in European history from the 14th to the 17th century. Its movement began in Italy, but spread throughout Europe. The Renaissance brought many new things to Europe like classical texts, scientific discoveries and new technology, novels, and creative new styles of art. One of the most famous figures of the Renaissance era is Leonardo Da Vinci. His work displayed the humanist ideas that defined the Renaissance era. He was a botanist, writer, geologist, cartographer, anatomist, inventor, mathematician, engineer, scientist, musician, architect, sculptor, and a painter. He was able to fuse the paint with great elegance to create extremely magical effects of realism, and layer the paint in thin glazes to make pictures full of atmosphere. His most famous works of art are the ââ¬Å"The Last Supperâ⬠and the ââ¬Å"Mona Lisaâ⬠. ââ¬Å"The Last Supperâ⬠was painted during his time in Milan from 1495 to 1498. ââ¬Å"The painting depicts the Passover dinner in which Jesus Christ addresses the Apostles and says ââ¬Å"One of you shall betray meâ⬠. ââ¬Å"One of the paintings stellar features is each Apostles distinct emotive expression and body language. Its composition, in which Jesus is centered among yet isolated from the Apostles, has influenced generations of paintersâ⬠(Leonardo Da Vinci). One of Leonardo greatest work of arts because of how the painting tells a story just by examining this true work of art. The lighting within the painting gives off the emotions of each person in the painting after Jesus reveals that one of them will betray him. He was able to capture a true historical event with his amazing talent. In 1499, the French invaded Mil an and Da Vinci fled to Venice and then to Florence. During his time there he painted the ââ¬Å"Mona Lisaâ⬠in 1503 to 1506. The woman in the painting has been the subject of speculation for centuries because of her curious smile.
